1. What CaseWax is

CaseWax is a desktop productivity tool for Windows. It can search and summarise documents you point it at, and can transcribe calls from audio available on your computer. It is not a law firm, not a solicitor or barrister, and not a substitute for professional legal advice, judgment or supervision.

2. AI answers are for reference only — no responsibility for their content

Outputs from the Software — including answers, summaries, citations, transcripts and any other generated text — are provided solely for your convenience and as a reference aid while you work with your own files.

Those outputs may be incomplete, inaccurate, outdated, misleading or inappropriate for your matter. Citations and page references may also be wrong. You must check every material statement against the underlying source documents and apply your own professional judgment before relying on anything the Software produces.

We do not accept responsibility or liability for AI-generated answers or any other Software output. You remain solely responsible for how you use those outputs, including any advice you give, any filing you make, any decision you take, and any communication with a client or court.

Nothing in the Software or on this website creates a solicitor–client (or attorney–client) relationship with us, and nothing here is legal advice.

3. Licence

Subject to these Terms and payment of any applicable fees, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the Software on the number of Windows computers covered by your licence key, for your internal professional use. You may not redistribute the Software, rent it, reverse engineer it except where the law expressly allows, or use a single licence on more machines than your licence permits.

Trial licences last 30 days unless we tell you otherwise in writing. Paid licences last for the period stated on your invoice or confirmation email.

4. Your responsibilities

You are responsible for:

• complying with your professional and confidentiality obligations;
• deciding whether use of the Software is appropriate for a given matter;
• keeping your licence key and installation secure;
• backing up your own documents and data;
• verifying Software output before relying on it for any professional purpose.

5. Website and orders

Information on this website is general marketing information and may change. Prices and features described on the site apply until we update them. Submitting a trial or purchase form is a request; a licence is formed when we confirm it and, for paid plans, when payment terms are agreed.

6. Acceptable use

You must not use the website or Software to break the law, to infringe others’ rights, to attempt unauthorised access to systems, or to interfere with the Software’s licensing or security mechanisms.

7. Intellectual property

We and our licensors own the Software, this website, and the CaseWax name and branding. These Terms do not transfer ownership to you. Your documents and data remain yours.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

The website and Software are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the Software will be error-free, uninterrupted, or suitable for every matter or machine.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill or business opportunity, arising from or related to the website, the Software, or any AI-generated or other output.

Without limiting the AI disclaimer in section 2, our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the website or Software in any twelve-month period is limited to the fees you paid us for the Software in that period (or, if you are on a free trial only, zero).

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

10. Termination

Your licence ends when its term expires or when we terminate it for breach of these Terms. On termination you must stop using the Software and delete copies in your possession, except where the law requires you to retain them. Sections that by nature should survive (including the AI disclaimer, intellectual property, disclaimers and liability limits) continue after termination.

11. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms. If you do not agree, stop using the website and Software.
